Are Drone Shoots Legal in Gurgaon? A Quick Guide to Permissions
Drone videography is a strong tool for real estate marketing, but it’s not a “just show up and fly” service in India — civil drone operations are regulated, and Gurgaon’s proximity to Delhi adds an extra layer worth understanding before you book.
Who regulates drones in India
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) governs civil drone use under the Drone Rules, 2021, using the Digital Sky platform for registration and airspace mapping. Drones are registered with a Unique Identification Number (UIN), and the airspace map is colour-coded into green, yellow and red zones — green zones generally permit flights up to 400 feet without additional case-by-case clearance, while yellow and red zones (near airports, military installations and other sensitive sites) require permission or are restricted outright.
Why this matters specifically in Gurgaon
Because Gurgaon sits close to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, parts of the city fall inside controlled or restricted airspace where drone flights need prior clearance or aren’t permitted at all. This varies block by block, not just city by city — a property in one sector may be perfectly flyable while a similar property a few kilometres away sits inside a restricted zone.
Why it’s worth checking before you book
Flying without the correct clearance in a restricted zone carries real regulatory risk for whoever operates the drone, not just an inconvenience — it’s the reason a reputable studio checks zoning first rather than promising aerial coverage on every listing by default. It also affects planning: a compliant flight in a yellow zone can take longer to arrange than a same-week booking in an open green zone, so it helps to flag early if aerial footage is important to you.
How we handle it
Before booking a drone shoot, we check the property’s location against the current airspace zoning and confirm feasibility — so there are no surprises on shoot day. If a location isn’t viable for drone coverage, we’ll tell you upfront and recommend a strong ground-level alternative instead, such as a gimbal-stabilised walkthrough that still covers the property’s scale from strategic vantage points.
Planning a shoot that depends on aerial footage? Get in touch with the property address early so we can confirm feasibility before you commit to a date.
